Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
Report from Eldey: The sunlight was incredible this morning and coloured the whole sky pink and orange. The sea was relatively calm with a wind from the East. There were thousands of birds at sea today, spread out in large flocks everywhere we looked. With all those birds that were probably feeding we were confident we would find something else that was attracted to the fish and indeed, in the distance we saw a large blow. We sailed towards the blow to find that there were three humpback whales swimming together! On our way to them a minke whale gave us a surprise visit and popped up for a few surfaces next to the boat. Our attention was quickly shifted back to the humpback whales as they came up really close to us and two of them showed the fluke. We recognised Mariupol and Sooty, and the third individual was unknown to us so we look forward to add it to our database to keep track of its future movements. With such an amazing up-close sighting of these three giants in mind we sailed back towards Reykjavík.

WHALE WATCHING TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: The wind had really picked up on this tour but it was still in a nice direction to prevent too much rocking. We had another wonderful sighting of 2 humpback whales this afternoon. First we met the humpback whale we know as Mariupol but this this he was on his own and obviously busy feeding, he surfaced often but when diving showed his beautiful fluke. As other boats came over we decided to leave and we came across another humpback whale, a new individual to the area that we first encountered about 4-5 days ago. The feeding behaviour of this individual was more irregular and harder to predict. Also frustrating as we still have not been able to get a fluke photo, arched its back many times but have never brought up the fluke yet. It was cold as we sailed home against the wind and so everyone enjoyed a nice warm drink in the heated saloons.
