Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00 and 14:00  Premium Whale tour and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00  Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: What a gorgeous Friday morning! The mountains were dusted in snow and the sunrise was making the ones in the distance look golden. There was not much swell and a bit of cold wind as we sailed out. After a bit of sailing we spotted 7 white beaked dolphins! Some of this pod was a bit further and some got really close. We stayed with them for a bit and then noticed a bigger blow a little further out so went on to investigate! However this blow wasn't seen again, maybe it moved on or maybe it was trying to break the record of how many boats it could attract while holding its breath. We stayed as long as we could to see who's blow we saw but it remained a mystery and we eventually ran out of time and had to start heading back home. We sadly didn't see anymore species of cetacean on our way home and as the dolphins were short lived and elusive we decided to give complimentary tickets, so that everyone has the chance to come again for free!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon the sea continued to be quite calm, the wind was weaker and we enjoyed the sun on our faces during most of the tour. Sailing out in the bay and admiring the beautiful landscape with the mountains around us snowy on the top, we travelled for about 30 min until we had our first encounter with a pod of 6 white-beaked dolphins. This pod was super sociable and came very close to us, as we realized they were bow-riding. One of the dolphins started to jump repeatedly, giving us the chance to take as many pictures of it while it splashed around. Then, another dolphin a bit ahead started to jump as well, as a response! We started to continue our way to see what else we could spot and we got to an area where we could see a dark back from a minke whale up ahead. We waited for it to come up again, and there it was: the beautiful silver body of this minke shining in the sun. Not only the minke whale was there, a few hundred meters away to it, we also had another pod of 5 dolphins in the same area, and as one of the dolphins started to jump, it was hard to choose where to look. We could see the minke a couple more times, but this one was swimming away from us, so we decided to start our way to Reykjavik, enjoying the sun and the landscape.
