Report from Eldey: After the nice encounter with the minkes this morning, and overall merciful temperatures, we departed with optimism and sailed away for quite a long time toward the west, until we joined another whale watching vessel for double checking an area with potential activity. We waited there and had actually nice encounter with about 8 harbour porpoises. Not that it was easy to follow those shy tiny cetaceans, but they came close to us on several occasions, passing under the boat and leaping between the waves! For animals reputed to be extremely elusive, they allowed us quite solid glimpses. We didn't stay too long with them, wanting to see bigger and more cooperative species, and eventually spotted two blows in front of us, most likely belonging to minke whales, but unfortunately they never appeared again and we didn't catch sight of these whales. The end of our trip consisted in fruitless searching in rough seas, there we promptly gave complimentary tickets to our passengers and hope that the next try will be more successful !

Report from Eldey: This morning we were greeted with a dry sky and some swells out in the bay so that there was some movement on the boat, but overall the sailing conditions were pleasant and we enjoyed our time out at sea. After about an hour we heard about a minke whale in the area and tried to find it. During our search we briefly came across 2-3 cute harbour porpoises before they vanished again. That is when we basically stumbled upon the minke whale which then surfaced very close and allowed us to take lovely views of it's sleek back. When it went for another deep dive we sailed on and only a few minutes later saw two other minke whales surfacing at the same time. It was likely a mother and a calf who were traveling together and we could enjoy them for almost half an hour surfacing directly in front and around us, simply fantastic. Then it was time for us to happily return to the old harbour of Reykjavik.
