Report from Eldey: What an amazing tour this evening. The weather was incredible and sea conditions perfectly smooth. It was like navigating on a lake. At first, we were enjoying the sun, admiring the wonderful landscape and the birds while searching for whales. After one hour at sea we saw the spectacular show of at least 8 white beaked dolphins with two calfs, they were feeding in those rich waters, with some of them jumping! It was amazing to see that under the beautiful evening sunlight. After a while, we decided to let them alone, and to search for something else. We first found another pod of white beaked dolphin, and when we were thinking to come back to the port, we saw the blow of a humpback whale. We approached this huge cetacean slowly until we had the opportunity to see it surfacing a few times and also fluke dive. Our research coordinator was happy to discover, thanks to the special pattern of the fluke, that it was a new individual that we can add in our ID catalogue ! Thus, it was a great tour for whale watchers and a great tour for the research group of Elding.

Report from Hafsúlan: We left the harbour of Reykjavik with the sun high in the sky and the calm sea in front of us. We sailed WSW into the middle of the bay to look for some wildlife. It was after more then an hour that we saw a single white-beaked dolphin. It turned out to be more of them, but the group turned out very difficult to observe. Next we saw a minke whale that we managed to smell before we saw it. But yet again...hard to observe. This happened one more time with both species. The last minke whale was a little nicer to us this time and it did come out somewhat close to the boat (50 m), but still, it didn't allow us to get a better look at it. Even though we saw the cetaceans briefly, plenty of birds and bird species, we don't believe that it was up to Elding standard and for that reason decided to give out complementary tickets for our guests to try their luck one more time.

Report from Eldey: Although winds had picked up juuuust slightly but it was still absolutely beautiful being in Faxafloi. We sailed directly to where we had left the minke whales this morning and did spot 2 minke whales nearly in the same place, but they were being very elusive and difficult to follow this afternoon. Thus, we decided not to spend to much time with them but instead search further. We aimed north-easterly and encountered a pod of 7 white-beaked dolphins. They were a different group than on our 9 am tour, as they had different shaped dorsal fins! We stayed with them for as long as time permitted and they were being super sneaky, swimming from one side to the other and making us do some exercise walking from port to starboard side to keep up with them. While sailing back we encountered another 3 white-beaked dolphins, a minke whale and also some of the cute puffins! What a pleasure to be outside today.

Report from Hafsúlan: We sailed out from Reykjavik navigating through favouring winds and over flat seas. It was a perfect morning to be out at sea! During the course of the tour we got to observe 2 pods of about 5 to 6 white beaked dolphins and 4 minke whales at different stages of our tour. First minke whale was a bit challenging to keep track of, but during our last sighting we reached an area with at least 3 of these small rorquals. After spending quite a while surrounded by this incredible creatures, it was time to head back to the harbour. Another great tour with Elding!

Report from Eldey: What a B-E-A-UTIFUL morning! Sunshine, no wind, no clouds and the best visibility we could ask for. It was so warm that no one needed to wear an overall and, actually, none of our passengers were ever in the indoor part of our boat!! That was not only due to the weather, but also due to our sightings. While the search to find the animals we encountered took us a while, first along Snæfellsness and then turning towards Reykjaness, we eventually encountered what we believed to be only two, but turned out to be 4 minke whales! They were all around us, some surfacing frequently, some only once inbetween longer dives. After over 30 minutes of watching them, our other boat that was out today, Hafsulan, called us and let us know they had found some dolphins. Naturally we aimed to show also this species to our passengers and were delighted to find a pod of 6-8 white-beaked dolphins that decided to bow ride and come up close to our boat. Sailing back was something no one wanted to do, but at least for the crew it means we have another beautiful tour to come :)
