Report from Eldey: Still an overcast sky and low-hanging clouds like it can be expected this time of the year greeted us also on this tour. Closer to land, we were still feeling that long swell but were actually more surfing the waves rather than being bothered by them. Also the kind of waves we have often seen whales and dolphins surfing on as well! Sure enough only 45 minutes into our tour we spotted a pod of at least 5 white-beaked dolphins. One appeared to be a young individual, always staying close to the full grown adult. We watched them for about half an hour and could have stayed even longer, but we do not want to distract them in any way and thus stay never more than an hour. Also this left us more time to search the bay some more. We saw another 2 dophins but moved on as we had seen this species so well already. Eventhough we did not have luck in finding another species, we had a great dolphin encounter that surely will stay in the memory of all our passengers.

Report from Eldey: It was a cloudy, foggy morning as we sailed out from the Old Harbour. We were sprinkled with a little bit of rain but we provided all passengers with overalls to keep warm and dry in order to enjoy sailing to the fullest. There was some swell but no white-caps on waves which is always better for spotting any animals in the water. We were searching through large areas of Faxafloi bay, along the Reykjanes peninsula and into the Eastern part of the bay as well. On our fish finder, we could see that there was a lot of fish underneath our boat in the areas we were sailing. This made us very hopeful, since whales and dolphins are mainly feeding and looking for fish in these cold waters. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we did not spot any cetaceans during the tour. We want to give our passengers a second chance to try see whales and dolphins and therefore provided everyone with complimentary tickets allowing to come on an other whale watching tour for free within the next two years.

Birds seen today: common guillemot, eider duck, cormorant, black-backed gull.
We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. We are expecting the sea today to be a bit rough after the storm yesterday, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
