Status Tour 9:00 and 13:00: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: A glorious afternoon in the capital today with sunshine the whole day. The sea was smooth and wind was very light, but also very cold. We sailed out to the area we were encountered wildlife on the mornings tour, scanning the area intensely in order to relocate the cetaceans. An hour or so had passed when a large flock of birds were spotted feeding at the surface with many splashes visible underneath. As we approached it was clear it was white beaked dolphins. A large pod of 30-40 individuals were most likely feeding but once we arrived their behaviour was more playful and inquisitive as they approached our vessel, swimming within metres of the bow. The dolphins seemed comfortable with our presence and allowed us to watch them for some time which was fantastic. It was a great tour and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Bird species seen on todays tour include: eider duck, northern fulmar, great cormorant, kittiwake, iceland gull, greater black back gull

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: With increasing temperatures, weak wind and small waves, we got a departure close to perfection! It was a delight to just be outside and breath in splendid landscape. For the worst or for the best, our nature contemplation was cut short, as we quickly came across a pod of white-beaked dolphins! At first we were following about 5-7 individuals, but we soon realized there was much more of them, about 30 of them in total surfacing in every directions and every distances around us! For most of the encounter, we stayed with the friendly pod we found first, which included 2 playful calves. The family of dolphins got comfortable with our presence, and even started to dive under the boat repeatedly and indulged in a bit of bow riding. At times they were surfacing close to us and slowly, giving us a perfect profile for pictures. After enjoying them to the fullest, we did a circling around to try to find some other species, before it was time to go home. The cruise toward the harbour was as beautiful and smooth as the way out.
