Tour at 17:00

The weather was also great on our last tour. We could enjoy a calm sea and really beautiful sunlight. First of all we went to Akurey the puffin island and saw some puffins sitting on the surface and flying around the island. There where also some eider ducks on the island. Then we headed straight out to the whale watching area and before we reached it, we spotted a pod of harbour porpoises. Just a few seconds after that we spotted also a group of white beaked dolphins further away. We could get closer to them and saw them surfacing quite often around the boat. After that we where looking for some minke whales and found them further out in the bay and spotted all together 3 to 4 of them. So, a really great whale watching day found its perfect ending.

The weather was still great and even getting better. Soon after we headed out from Reykjavík we spotted some harbour porpoises. The first pod was very shy but the second one very nice, surfacing many times. Further out we found a big group of white-beaked dolphins. Absolutely fantastic group, leaping, swimming all around us and coming very close so we could have a good look at them. We spent some time with them, then we headed little bit further out and found two nice minke whales. So three species this afternoon and some puffins at Akurey. Wonderful tour.

Tour at 09:00

The weather was very good, calm sea but cloudy. Our first stop was at the puffin island Lundey. Lots of puffins at home this morning. Further out in Faxaflói we came to an area with 3-5 minke whales. This area was very deep so the whales were diving for a long time and only surfacing ones or twice each time. Some of them came very close to our boat, 10-20 meters. We also saw lots of puffins in this area. So all together very successful tour.

Birds seen on tours. Fulmars, kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills, puffins, arctic terns and gannets.
