CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 9:00

Report from Eldey: This morning was beautiful! We had the sun shining and calm seas. Perfect for spotting some cetaceans! We headed out into the bay with our eyes constantly searching for any sign that a whale or dolphin might be nearby. We kept the Reykjanes peninsula on our left and enjoyed the sun. Not too long into the tour, we spotted a minke whale! We managed to follow it for a while and it came fairly close at some moments. As with a lot of minkes, it was swimming very fast and this made it a little tricky to continue following. Then we heard from one of the RIBs on this morning's premium whale watching tours that they had seen a humpback whale so we went to join them so we might also be able to spot it and see a second species of the morning. When we arrived in the area, the whale had gone down for a deep dive so we kept a look out and only a few minutes later we saw its blow! We were able to stay with this individual and watch as it lifted its fluke out of the water a few times to take deeper dives. The time on our tour was coming to an end so we headed back to the harbour with the sun on our faces.

PREMIUM WHALE TOUR | 10:00

Report from RIBs: We were excited to go out on the water on this sunny day with great visibility conditions. Soon, we saw the back of a minke whale but we decided to keep on going to other whale hotspots in the bay. Our captain then spotted the blow of a humpback whale, and soon after the majestic fluke. The whale was taking very long dives so after seeing it surface a few times (sometimes very close to us) we decided to explore some different areas. Near Akranes we saw the blow of a humpback whale, and moments later we also were able to enjoy a minke whale, the sun reflecting on its smooth skin. We returned home, happy to have seen all these different individuals and many species of seabirds on this beautiful day.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Now did we not only have calm seas but the sun had got even more intense than in the morning and was shining on our faces. After about one hour of sailing, we suddendly spotted a huge blow at the distance which turned out to be the breaths of a beautiful humpback whale. First it was going for a dive that was generally about 5 minutes, and it was a little bit tricky to keep up but eventually it surfaced closer to the boat allowing us to observe it properly and identify it! It was Davy Jones, the well-known humpback whale that we adore! It usually is a very active animal, and today it proved us right, as all at once it breached out of the water, that was just awesome!! After that we stayed with it for a while until we spotted another humpback whale at the distance. So, we decided to check it out, but we waited and waited for it to resurface again but this animal was a bit more elusive. We saw another blow faraway and decided to let this whale alone. When we got to the area where the animal was the humpback surfaced close to us and around the vessel many times and we watching in awe. It was very hard to leave the area but we were running out of time and should return back to the harbour. What an interesting tour we had with a beautiful sun set greeting us back to Reykjavik.

PREMIUM WHALE TOUR | 14:00

Report from Ribs: The wind strength had increased since the morning, causing more small white caps on the sea surface. We headed out quite far to begin with, to an area where wildlife had been seen on the days earlier tour. After a good search, we slowly journeyed towards the city, criss-crossing through the bay to a number of key areas and were greeted by a pod of 10+ white-beaked dolphins that swam towards our boat to investigate. The dolphins followed us for some time, with the smaller individuals appearing the most curious. Before the tour was over we made sure we found a humpback whale for the passenger to observe. The whale did not show the most elaborate behaviours as it swam in one direction, surfacing 3 times before perfroming a 6 minute dive each time, but gave our guests a very good opportunity to see an animal of this size up close.
