Report from Eldey: A beautiful afternoon to head out in the bay called Faxaflói. The light on this afternoon tour was absolutely stunning, the warm strong sun shining through the colurful clouds. We sailed south to the same area we saw the morning whales and found a pod of 5-7 harbour porpoises that were less elusive than usual, we slowed down and got a very nice encounter of them. They have been awesome lately maybe due the abundance of food around, close to the coast. The birdlife was also diverse, all the winter species we don´t see often the summer like  long-tailed ducks. Unfortunately we saw no other cetaceans on this tour so we offered complimentary tickets to our passengers, hopefully they will have better luck on their next adventure.

Report from Eldey: Even though we had strong wind on this tour, this didn't discourage us from having a super awesome sea adventure. Very close to the harbour we saw a single minke whale. It caught us by surprise and came up of our port bow 30 m away. We waited and waited, but it didn't show up again. We left the animal to be and sailed forward. We saw some harbour porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) along the way, but nothing much else for quite some time. We were already going back when we saw another minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) individual surfacing behind us at 6 o'clock. It resurfaced several times and we all managed to get a nice, decent look at the massive animal. It was a very good way to end the tour, the tour of true vikings. :)

Bird species seen on todays tours: norther gannet, eider duck, glaucouse gull, lesser black-backed gull, iceland gull, razorbil, common guillemot, great cormorant, black headed gulls, blacked-legged kittiwake, long-tailed ducks.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. It is very windy today, and therefore the seas are quite rough. We do have sea sickness tablets available free of charge at the ticket office. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
