Report from Eldey: The wind was very strong but fortunately the swell was low so the weather was quite kind to us this morning, as the boat didn't move very much. We went south in Faxaflói bay to seek a bit of shelter from the land, but it wasn't until we turned a bit northwest that we saw some action. We saw many gannets diving beautifully into the ocean, and a little later we found a humpback whale. We stayed with it for around 20-30 minutes, seeing its fluke three times and at least 5 surfacing actions. It was quite close to the boat so every passenger managed to get a very good look at it. Just as we left the humpback whale, we spotted a minke whale in the same spot as the humpback whale. We did not have much time for it as we were running a bit late, but we stayed for two surfacing sequences to make sure that everyone on board managed to see it.

✔ CLASSIC WHALE TOUR ON SCHEDULE | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The same weather conditions were for this tour as for the morning: overcast, light drizzle sometimes, windy but not a lot of swell. We decided to go to the area where we spotted the minke whale and humpback whale in the morning tour, but were stopped in our tracks on the way there as we stumbled upon a pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins. They had a calf with them that was quite playful, jumping up from the ocean. We didn't stay with them for too long as we needed the time to get out to the area we were aiming for. On our way there, we saw one single puffin, maybe the last one of the summer! Then, once in the spot, we spotted the blow from the humpback whale. We went closer to it and then saw the minke whale! So we had both of them in the same area, but they were moving in different directions so we stayed with the humpback. It was very unpredictable in its behaviour, surfacing only once sometimes and moving  very little but staying down for a long time when it deep dived. However, as in the morning, it gave us a couple of great flukedives before we head to head home for the harbour.
