Report from Elding II: The afternoon tour was the one where 3 different individual humpback whales were jumping out of the water and one was laying on its back and slapped its flippers against the surface. I would also like to mention that there were at least 20 minke whales in the area and it was hard to keep track of the number we saw on each tour because they were coming out in every direction. An unusual but beautiful day that I will for sure not forget, and I’m sure neither will our guests.

✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE |  9:00

Report from Elding II: Yet again a sunny day might trick people who have been on the island for a week that Iceland is in fact a place with constant and perfect weather conditions. Due to the new covid19 restrictions and an unusually low number of passengers we sailed out today with our “small” 15 meter boat. The sea was calm and we had a great time standing (some of the passengers laying) in the sun and on the bow of the boat. It was a day filled with excitement as we witnessed some of the best marvels of nature the bay has to offer. The furthest we went from the harbor was 7 nautical miles and boy did we see a lot in that short distance from the starting point. There must have been 8 humpback whales in the broader area and we managed to see some of those up close and personal on both of the tours. We saw Tattoo the humpback whale, and we are always glad to recognize old friends.

Birds seen on today’s tours include: common guillemot, northern gannet, kittiwake, black-backed gull, northern fulmar, eider duck.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 9:00 and 13:00. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.

At this time we have to ask that all our guests and staff ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser on a regular basis is advised, as well as wearing a face mask when keeping a 2 metre distance from others is not possible. Masks are available for purchase in our ticket office and hand sanitiser stations are located in high traffic areas.
