Report from Eldey: What a beautiful day for whale watching! Finally no clouds and we sailed out into Faxafloi with sunshine during almost the whole tour. The sea was pretty smoth and we could go any direction to search for whales and dolphins. We were surrounded by beautiful landscape with snow on the mountains and even the old volcano Snæfellsjökull was visible. Plenty of birds were active today, which we always see as a good sign since some of the birds feeds on the same kind of fish as the whales and dolphins. After almost two hours into our tour we encountered a pod of 6-10 harbour porpoises! We stopped the boat and luckily we got to see them more then we normally does. After some minutes we more harbour porpoises kept coming up to the surface on both side of our boat! A real unique harbour porpoise encounter today. We continue searching, but as the harbour porpoises were our only encounter and we know we can show our passengers more of the wildlife in this bay we decided to offer a complimentary ticket to come with us again for free within two years.

- Sabrina Voswinkel

Birds seen today include: cormorant, glaucous gull, greater-black-backed gull, eider duck, common guillemot, icelandic gull, northern fulmar.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. There is a strong undercurrent in the ocean now so there could be some movement out on the bay today after the bad weather that we have been having for the past days, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
