Report from Elding: The afternoon was just as sunny as the morning, and equipped with our warm overalls, everyone could brave the cool northerly winds. It was still choppy but we took course to make the sail as smooth as possible. We sailed along the Snaefelsnes Peninsula, usually one of the favourite spots of dolphins, seeing a lot of bird species, among them the iconic puffin, the beautiful northern gannet and the arctic tern. The sailing was beautiful overall, watching the coast guard ship out, sunshine and plenty of birds. However it lacked the most important feature - the whales. This came so surprising after the amazing last month we have been having. Surely it will only last for today and so we offer all our passengers to join us again within the next 2 years, using the complimentary ticket we provided them with.

Report from Elding: The morning greeted us with beautiful sunny skies, as if to compensate for the choppy waters and strong wind that we sailed into. Also the visibility this morning was quite astonishing, allowing us to see Snæfellsjökull in perfect clarity. It took us over an hour to spot life out there and when we did, that “life” proved to be very elusive. Firstly, we were tracking a minke whale for a good half an hour, but it was all over the place, coming only very briefly to the surface and then disappearing again. Secondly we spotted what looked like a blow of a humpback whale which we tried to follow. Again also this animal was impossible to whale watch. A real surprise for the whole crew, since yesterday there were so many whales everywhere in the bay. Since this tour was a frustrating one where there were whales but we could not see them, we gave out complementary tickets to our guests. This just proves to show how unpredictable nature is.

Birds seen on today’s tours include: atlantic puffin, arctic tern, manx shearwater, common guillemot, arctic skua, northern gannet, kittiwake, black-backed gull, northern fulmar, eider duck.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 09:00 and 13:00. We are expecting the wind to pick up a bit as the day goes on, so the sea will be a bit choppy, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
