Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey:  WOW! The light and sea conditions on this tour was incredibly beautiful and by far the best of this winter season. The sun was just above the horizon on the way out and set at the end of the tour casting strong oranges and yellows to start and pastel pinks on the way home. We saw two pods of harbour porpoises, about 7 in total close to the island of Engey as we headed out and literally the last cetacean to be seen for the next 2 1/2 hours until we were heading home and 20 minutes from the harbour another pod of 5-7 harbour porpoises and a humpback whale surprised us. Obviously there was a lot of food close to land and by this time the light was fading, allowing the large moon to brighten up as it rose just above Mt. Esja. The humpback was no more than 200m away from the Island of Akurey, just minutes outside the harbour. We followed the smooth circular fluke prints left behind at the surface as the whale swam in the shallow waters of the area, going back and forth. For a while it was being elusive and took long periods between surfaces but in the end we saw it well and it even lunge fed (came high out the water with its mouth open). Just brilliant. Patience definitely paid off.
