Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Wow, what a perfect day to be on the water. The sunrise was stunning as the sun shone over a very calm sea. We were also lucky with the wildlife also. Our first sighting was a minke whale that was feeding but we saw it many times and well. Then a little further in the bay we saw a small pod of 3 white-beaked dolphins. Then a little further still we found an area with at least 7-9 minke whales surfacing all around us, near and far. It was amazing. We were also determined to see a humpback so we continued searching. Another whale watching boat nearby informed us they found one and off we went. It was a very speedy humpback whale that was obviously on a mission, but it came up regularly and even brought up its tail from time to time. It even took us close to another humpback whale that we saw only once. In the end we sailed home with a warm drink and a little music. A great way to start the day.

WHALE WATCHING TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: It was raining as we boarded the passengers on our afternoon tour but we were lucky that it soon stopped once we left the harbour walls and we could enjoy the wildlife whilst staying dry. On the way out, very close to land, we caught a glimpse of a minke whale but as we we were looking forward to getting to same area as this morning we didn’t stay long. About 30mins later we spotted two humpback whales travelling side by side and as we got closer we were so happy to see that she was a regular to us, a humpback whale named Pep and she brought along a friend we couldn’t recognise. Pep was awesome as usual and showed curiosity towards us, always staying close and chilling at the surface whilst keeping contact with the other individual that was a lot more cautious and shy. As other boats approached we left the area and went looking for all the life we saw this morning and was surprised that there was very little to see, literally all gone. The humpbacks were even different ones to this mornings individuals also. On the way home we did see another minke whale that we encountered really well. Perfect ending to great whale watching day.
