 TOUR ON SCHEDULE  | 13:00

Report from Eldey:  Winds had picked up a fair bit since this morning so our course took us throughout the Eastern parts of the bay. It was definitely a truly adventurous sailing at times but that is all part of the fun out at sea. Once we reached Akraness we were not only in more shelter but also in an area where we often have encounters. Not only our crew was on the lookout constantly, but as always we encouraged our passengers to become part of the team to enlargen our chances. We got to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Faxafloi bay with the beautiful mountains Esja and Akrafall as well as the silhouette of Reykjanes peninsula with the sun lighting up behind the clouds. Unfortunately, we did not see any Cetaceans on the tour, the animals seen on the previous tour had simply moved to another area. The beauty of wildlife is that you never know what to expect but this also means that sometimes we end up with no sightings. We want to give our passengers an other chance to try again because we truly think whales and dolphins are worth seeing in the wild. Therefore we gave everyone a complimentary ticket allowing to come on a tour again for free within the next two years.

 TOUR ON SCHEDULE  | 09:00

Report from Eldey:  Despite a cloudy sky the visibility at sea  was great as we could actually see as far as to  the old  glacier volcano Snaefellsjokull on the opposite side of Faxafloi. It was very windy but that is all part of the Icelandic experience. After about 50 minutes of sailing, we spotted some harbour porpoises and Northern gannets, likely meaning that there was more fish in the water of that area.  Suddendly, a minke whale popped up very close to us. However, we only spotted it once, it was probably browsing the area for food and therefore moving around a lot making it hard for us to follow along. So, we continued sailing and, after a short while, we started seeing splashes in front of us: jumping white-beaked dolphins! They were riding the waves, jumping and even doing backflips in the air. SImpy amazing to watch! We also encountered an other pod of white-beaked dolphins further out, making it at least 15 dolphins we saw on this trip all together. Hard to say who was having more fun, the dophins jumping or us watching them jump.

Birds seen today: northern gannet, black-headed gull, black-backed gull,  herring gull, northern fulmar, kittiwake, common guillemot.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. It is quite windy today so there will be some movement on the ocean. If your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
