Report from Elding: The weather was almost no change, maybe a bit more of a breeze but overall a very comfortable day to be outside. Since our morning tour had gone so well, we again sailed northerly into Faxabay. Just after 20 minutes, harbour porpoises popped up to greet us on our way. But it was after an hour at sea that we again arrived in an area with many northern gannets diving into the water with an impressive speed. Watching this beautiful bird is always impressive on it’s own, but luckily we also saw 2 minke whales feeding amongst them. It was quiet, we could even hear their blow when they exhaled, a truly memorable experience. After the three hours of our tour, we had seen a total of 4 minke whales! And as we always thrive for more, we finished off the tour finding a pod of at least 10 white-beaked dolphins playing around in the waves, jumping and bow-riding.

✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE | 09:00

Report from Elding: A much calmer sea than on the previous days greeted us this morning as we sailed out into Faxaflói. With a cloudy sky and very little wind, spotting conditions were great. We sailed to the area we had seen whales the afternoon before and, to our pleasure, could already see the hundreds of gannets diving after fisb from far away. As we approached, we had a short encounter with a pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins that were preoccupied hunting their breakfast. Most of our time we spend with 2 minke whales, which surfaced slowly and always taking many breaths before diving, making them easy to watch. Sailing back we relaxed, taking in the surroundings and great view of Reykjavík.

Birds seen on today's tours include: atlantic puffin, northern gannet, northern fulmar, arctic tern, black-backed gull, common guillemot, razorbill, kittiwake, manx shearwater, eider duck.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 09:00 and 13:00. There could be some movement out on the bay today, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.

At this time we have to ask that all our guests and staff ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser on a regular basis is advised, as well as wearing a face mask when keeping a 2 metre distance from others is not possible. Masks are available for purchase in our ticket office and hand sanitiser stations are located in high traffic areas.
