Status 9:00 and 13:00 Tour: RUNNING FROM ANONTHER HARBOUR

Tour 13:00

Report from Eldey: Even before leaving the harbour we could see a humpback whale over the sea wall, just 5 mins and we were there and Mr. Humpie looked to be very busy feeding. Constantly changing direction but generally stayed in the same area. Today the humpback looked to be a little more energentic, showing the fluke a few times and coming very close to the boat. We were able to get better photographs of the whale today and it looks a little sick, it had many scars all over the body and had a large irregular hump behind the blowholes. Hopefully it´s getting enough food to be healthy and strong. 3 days of this amazing humpback, lets see if it will still be around once the storm ends. The winters light and landscape was very picturesque and the birdlife was just as incredible as the morning.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was beautiful in the harbour of Keflavik but as soon as we left the harbour a snow storm came over us and reduced our visibility. Even in poor visibility we were able to spot a small pod of harbour porpoises, we stopped and were able to see them swim past the boat. This was the first in three small pods of harbour porpoises with 2-5 individuals in each and there was even a little baby porpoise, which was very cute. The snow storms came and gone as we sailed along the Reykjanes peninsula towards Garður and back again scanning thoroughly the areas the humpback was encountered the tours before. Unfortunatly, the humpback whale could not be found, instead we enjoyed the scenery, birdlife an porpoises. We also offered our passengers complimentary tickets to come again for free as no whales or dolphins were encountered on the tour.

Birds seen during our tour: Great northern divers, red-throated divers,  eider ducks, great cormorants, common guillemots, black-legged kittiwakes, great black backed gulls, iceland gulls, glaucous gulls, herring gulls, little auks, northern gannet, northern fulmars,
