Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: We were sailing out this afternoon from Hafnarfjördur where we had ended our morning tour. A strong wind was expected to blow from the south so this way we were hoping for a bit more sailing comfort with the wind in our back. It turned out that we made the right decision and sailing conditions remained okay throughout the whole tour. Our overalls protected us well from the elements so that a lot of passengers stayed outside for the majority of the tour.  Last year on the 11th of February we had seen our first minke whale of the season, so the hopes were high for today that the same would happen in 2017. We saw many northern gannets and quite a few northern fulmars, but unfortunately that was all the wildlife we could spot today. Therefore we gave out complimentary tickets to our passengers and are eager to go out again to try and find cetaceans in Faxa bay.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was very breezy on sailing out into the bay, the sea was fairly calm but it did pick up and the swells grew a bit. Only 15 minutes out of the harbour a small pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins popped up out of the surf! These dolphins surfaced a few times swimming around and under the boat, coming up only 5 meters away at times! What a fantastic experience. This pod popped up a few times before going down for a deeper dive. It was then decided to move out further into the bay, we saw a lot of bird life out at sea including northern fulmar, a red throated diver a small flock of storm petrels and the beautiful northern gannets. After searching for a bit longer it was decided to end the tour in Hafnarfjörður as the weather conditions were better there.
