Tour at 17:00

A very good tour. We set out on really calm seas and saw the Puffins at Akurey, Puffin Island. Then we headed straight to where we saw the Minke Whales on the 13:00 tour. We stuck it rich once again. First we found a couple of White-beaked Dolphins that were travelling at a nice speed for us to follow and get a good look. Then suddenly whilst watching the Dolphins we also saw a Minke Whale which we stayed with for a little while before finding ourselves with about 3 Minkes around us. 2 that were quite close (less than 100 meters) and one that was much further away. Later on in the tour we also found some Harbour Porpoises. Nice tour all round.

Tour at 13:00

It was still quite windy on this tour but it calmed down towards the end. Faxaflói still seemed quite lifeless with not so many birds around. However, we headed out and after about an hours sailing we saw something very far in the distance. We were off. We came across a cetacean that we weren't sure actually what it was. At first we thought a Minke Whale but the behaviour was very strange to what we are used too and it was very small. In the end we discussed it and concluded it was a Juvenile Minke Whale. After a while of very difficult juvenile Minke watching we found an adult which was really great surfacing only 20-30 meters from our boat. On the way back we also encountered many Harbour Porpoises to end the tour perfectly.

Tour at 9:00

A very difficult tour this one. It was still very windy and we had spats of rain during the journey. The highlights were the White-beaked Dolphins. After a long time waiting and not seeing anything we got word from another Whale Watch company of a pod of Dolphins. Patience finally paid off. No luck with the Minkes unfortunalty. Better luck next time.

Birds seen on todays tours: Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Gannets, Guillemots, Razorbills, Gulls, Arctic Terns, Puffins, Arctic Skuas and Eider Ducks.
