Report from Eldey: While the rain and swell were still with us this afternoon, at least the fog had lifted and we could see much further than this morning. That being the case, it was not even 40 minutes out into the bay that we spotted splashes and a blow far in the distance. So our course was set in that direction. It turned out to be just the opposite of the morning. Sunshine peaked through the clouds, winds died down and we saw a total of 3 humpback whales and at least 6 minke whales. Gannets were diving, Puffins were on the water and all life was just suddenly back in the bay. Absolutely fantastic and once more the proof that nature is unpredictable.

Report from Eldey: A rainy and foggy morning in Faxafloi. The swell of yesterday had calmed a little but was still making us move quite a lot. Sailing further and further, the fog got thicker and rain heavier, making the visibility rather poor for parts of the trip. Nontheless we were able to spot 2 minke whales during the sail. Both individuals were elusive, moving at random and hard to follow. This not being at all the kind of experience we want to offer our passengers, we of course handed out complimentary tickets to all so that they could return again, for free, in the following two years to give us and the whales another chance to prove to everyone how amazing the wildlife and nature here can be.

Birds seen on today’s tours include: atlantic puffins, manx shearwater, common guillemot and chicks, arctic skua, great skua, northern gannet, kittiwake, black-backed gull, northern fulmar, eider duck.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 9:00. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.

At this time we have to ask that all our guests and staff ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser on a regular basis is advised, as well as wearing a face mask when keeping a 2 metre distance from others is not possible. Masks are available for purchase in our ticket office and hand sanitiser stations are located in high traffic areas.
