✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE  | 13:00

Report from Eldey: It is clear, mother nature is very undecisive today. Leaving the harbour, we experienced a blanket of clouds, sunshine, rain, hail and then sunshine again. All within half an hour. To our pleasure though, we also encountered the pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins we had seen this morning again just near the entrance to Hvalfjödur. They really enjoyed swimming around our boat and the only difficulty in taking photos for us were the waves. Even so, no matter where on the boat we stood, at a point we saw the dolphins as they circled us for nearly half an hour. With a bit under two hours remaining, we decided to search further areas, including the island area Kollafjödur where, just around this time last year, we had some wonderful encounters. Despite there not being any whales there, yet, we still had a wonderful time with the dolphins and hope everyone enjoys the experience and memories they made today.

✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE  | 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was a rainy and foggy morning in Faxafloi bay today. Winter is definitely on its way! There was  swell and a little bit of wind, making it a true icelandic sailing experience. We provided everyone with overalls to keep them warm and dry and to enjoy the tour comfortably. It stopped raining 30 minutes into the tour and we were sharpening our eyes and trying to scan the water surface all around us for any possible signs of cetaceas in the area. There was no whitecaps on the waves which of course makes it easier to spot any splashes caused by animals or dark backs with dorsal fins popping up at the surface. The sun was peeking through the clouds here and there as the tour went on. After two and a half hours of sailing, we were well on our way back to Reykjavik, as suddendly 5-6 white-beaked dolphins popped up right in front of us. What a surprise! They were bow-riding for  a little bit and coming close to us. However, we did not get to see them for very long. Therefore we offered everyone complimentary tickets allowing to come again on another tour for free and hopefully see whales and dolphins properly that time.

Birds seen today: great cormorant, common guillemot, eider duck, black-headed gull

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. There can always be some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
