Tour at 13:00

Shortly before departure we received exciting news from a friend who had gone fishing from Njarðvík harbour this morning. He had just spotted a couple of humpbacks and several white beaked dolphins close by his usual fishing spot. We decided to head over to Njarðvík, although it meant extending the trip from 3 hours to 5 hours. And boy, was it worth it! On our way over there we spotted a large group of white beaked dolphins. They were all around the boat and very active. Some of them even leaped up in the air! We couldn't stay with them for very long because we were too excited to get to the area where our friend had spotted the humpbacks. When we finally arrived it was as if the ocean was sleeping. No life to be seen. But hold on! What was that? A blow? Could it really be a blow from a whale we could see so close to the harbour?! We headed even closer to land and found two humpback whales having a hearty lunch right outside Njarðvík harbour. Between 7 and 15 meters deep, the area was filled with fish and we were able to watch the beautiful humpbacks up close for a long time. It was a perfect sighting. After a while we headed back to Reykjavík, cold and wet but very happy with the day! :-)
