Tour at 17:00

We decided to cancel the 17:00 today due to the unfavorable sea conditions and also the lack of whales in the bay. Sorry for any inconvenience caused and if you require further in information please contact us at elding@elding.is or call us on 519 5000 or pop down to the office.

Tour at 13:00Report from Hafsúlan: This afternoon the wind had eased down a little and we decided to try our luck in a different area of the bay. But heading further South rather than West, did not seem to increase our chances of spotting cetaceans today. Even bird life appeared to be rare and scattered. Nevertheless, we encountered a fair few Puffin pairs, watched Fulmars glide through the air carried by the strong winds in the bay today and spotted some Northern Gannets as they few past. Generally however, the bay did not seem to offer the food basis for encounters with whales this afternoon. Possibly, the sandeels, the main food source for Minke Whales in this bay, were similarly scattered and dispersed as the birds or another bay or area may have simply had a richer amount of food. Due to a lack of whales we gave our passengers complimentary tickets to come again for another free tour in the hope they would have more luck on their next whale watching adventure.

Tour at 9:00Report from Hafsúlan: It was bit of a rocky and adventurous sail today. Additionally, the thick overcast skies reduced the visibility into the distance. After we had reached the area of the bay where we mostly encounter whales we scanned the surface of the water for possible signs of whales. Intermittently 2-5 Harbour Porpoises had popped up, but disappeared just as fast as they showed up. After quite a while, the captain then spotted a Minke Whale in the distance. As we approached the individual and hadn't seen it in over 20 minutes, it showed up to the back of the boat, but dove down and vanished from our view. Here and there, we were able to make out Northern Gannets plunging into the water and a Arctic Skua chase off the pray of a seagull. However, we were unsuccessful in landing the feverishly expected view on more whales. Unfortunately, the whales were a bit difficult to show our passengers so we gave them complimentary tickets for another free whale watching adventure.
