Tour status: RUNNING

Tour 19:00

Report from Hafsúlan: Sailing out with blue skies and sunshine, we knew that we were going to see a amazing sunset on this tour. However, we did not know if we would be fortunate enough to see cetaceans, but also that succeeded. We saw 5-6 minke whales on the tour, 3-4 white beaked dolphins and two pods of fun harbor porpoises. The minkes were scattered in the bay and we kept seeing them throughout the entire tour. Because of the low sun, we could easily see the blow from the whales, and as a bonus today, we could also smell their fishy breath. When we saw the white beaked dolphins it was especially beautiful, as the sun was about to set and the colors of the sun bounced off the dolphins. The last wildlife encounter we had, was a flock of northern gannets. It was truly a sight to remember, as the sun had already set, and we could see the silhouette of these birds diving. A real sunset tour!

Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: On the previous tours we noticed that wildlife was moving toward northern part of the bay so we went in that direction directly. Sea was smooth, sun was shining and it was and pleasant ride. On the way we found a minke whale. Animal was indifferent toward us so we could follow it. When we lost it and found again we realised that we might been watching few individuals but at least we got few close looks. At the end we got to see pod of 5 white beaked dolphins. There were some calves with them and while mother were trying to keep distance babies showed curiosity and we saw them jumping and coming close to the boat.

Tour at 14:00

Report from Hafsúlan: Perfect Saturday out on another seldom proper day of summer in Iceland. It was a very pleasant ride under the sun and cooperative winds. Not so long after we left the harbor we had our first sighting of the tour! We were able to fallow this minke whale and observe it for a while, as it sometimes re-surface quite close to our vessel. As we were keeping track of this one, another one popped up around the area. So at some point we were surrounded by at least 2 minke whales. Later on we resumed our search for something else and we ran across a group of about 5 or 6 white-beaked dolphins. These ones were on a grumpy mode, though.  Therefore, it was possible to keep up with them for a few times, but as they were persistently avoiding us, we decided to let them be. We always take our code of conduct very seriously! On our way back home we had another encounter with a minke whale.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: We had fantastic weather for our tour this afternoon, blue sky and sunshine, and winds were not too strong. We were heading out into the bay for quite a while, until we came across our first minke whale. However, this individual surfaced only three times, but most passengers managed to see it shortly. Only a few minutes later we found another minke whale, but again an elusive one. While heading back to the harbour we saw more minke whales rather far in the distance. As all these whales were only seen once or twice and difficult to follow, we decided to give our passengers complimentary tickets, to give it one more try on another whale watching tour.

Tour 10:00

Report from Hafsúlan: With sunshine, blue sky, calm sea and almost no wind we sailed out in Faxafloi full of excitement. It was wonderful weather, and it made us very hopeful for the wildlife on this tour. The first cetaceans we saw were 2 minke whales. It’s was great to see these whales, but they were a little elusive. So when we heard of a humpback whale, we quickly decided to go in that direction. When we were waiting for the humpback to surface we saw dolphins and minke whales in the area, but once the humpback came to the surface all attention was on it. It was such a beautiful sighting, with calm sea and sunshine and the large blow from the whale. We enjoyed watching this individual for the rest of the tour, calmly surfacing and showing us the fluke  It was a great tour in Faxafloi!

Tour at 9:00

Report from Eldey: What a trip! It was absolutely lovely with shining sun, flat sea and clear air with miles of visibility. Animals were also enjoying this conditions as very fast we found pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins. Couple minutes later a minke whale surfaced close by but only once. We came back to dolphins, this time much bigger pod of around 15 and we had time of our lives with dolphins jumping meters away from us, splashing over people. It was phenomenal but then we saw a huge blow and a humpback whale! Rest of the tour we were following this whale whit a company of 2 minke whales and some porpoises. 4 species of cetaceans in one morning!
