CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: What the hell was this weather!? This felt more like Australia than Iceland, even the killer jellyfish swarms made me feel at home. In this perfect spotting weather I was very confident that we would find something and I was very quickly proven right. There were almost as many minke whales as jellyfish today. After seeing 1 travelling quickly away from us we soon found another 3, then another 4, then more. In total we must have seen at least 20 up close and probably 20 more in the distance. Amongst these animals were diving northern gannets, rafts of manx shearwaters, and crying baby guillemots. It really was one of the most relaxed tours I´ve done this summer.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:OO

Report from Eldey: very nice sea conditions this afternoon like in the morning but seemed that we saw more species during this tour. 30 minutes after we left the harbour, we started to see a lot of harbour porpoises. A first pod with around 5 harbour porpoises, another pod with 3 individuals. They were quite relaxed and swam very slowly which is quite rare! Few minutes after we spotted some minke whales a bit further away, 2 minke whales came very close to the boat. At the same time we saw another pod of around 6 harbour porpoises doing some little full leap and another pod around 4 in the other side of the boat quite close too. We decided to keep going as we did not see the closer minke whale surfacing again. We spotted another area with a lot of birds around and soon around 8 minke whale came up, not all at the same time but we started to spot more and more in the area around our boat, some close and other a bit further away. There were mostly feeding, some of them were doing lunge feeding as they came to the surface with their mouth opened. After staying 10 minutes with them, we went a bit further trying to spot other species or something else interesting. On our way, we saw a group of 6 white beaked dolphins with some juveniles. They were travelling slowly, 2 individuals were a bit curious and came closer to our boat bow riding. Another pod of 5 white beaked dolphins were spotted again a bit further but we came close to them after. We could see that the bay was still full of like as we saw such a lot of animals every minute since we were in the hotspot area. On our way back to Reykjavik, we still spotted 2 other minke whales and 4 harbour porposes.
