Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: It was even warmer than on the morning tour. On this tour we got great sightings of 6-7 minke whales! We had to sail far out to find the first minke whales. We came to an area with 3 minke whales, we followed one of them for some time and got really good look at it. We decided to go even further out and soon spotted a blow at least a kilometer away. This was another minke whale that was traveling fast further west so it was not easy to follow it. Fortunately we spotted 2 other minkes in that area which were easier to follow. After good sightings of the minke whales we started heading back to Reykjavík. On the way back we spotted two pods of 2-3 harbour porpoises that were elusive and only few passengers were lucky enough to spot. We also saw one other minke whale but we were not sure if this was one of the individuals that we saw earlier on the tour.

Report from Eldey: We sailed out from Reykjavik Harbour on a beautiful sunny day, it was a bit chilly so we put the warm overalls we have onboard to good use. As we sailed out further into the bay we encountered our first species, a Minke Whale we saw it surface a few times, but it was being a bit elusive so we moved further out into the bay and found another Minke. This was a bit easier to spot and it surfaced far more regularly. We then spotted a pod of dolphins so we went towards them and were awarded with a lovely close encounter with a pod of 8 White Beaked Dolphins. We spent a good amount of time with the dolphins but as one has a calf we didn´t want to spend too much time with them so we moved off further into the bay. We then spotted a few larger blows so headed towards them and found a further 3 minke whales including a juvenile, which surfaced many times both together and separately. As time was running out we started heading back and saw a small pod of Harbour Porpoises of 1-3 individuals and they surfaced a few times before disappearing into the distance. We also spotted another pod of White Beaked Dolphin in the distance of about 6 individuals however, they were traveling fast in the opposite direction so we didn´t spot to see them. So we continued back to harbour in the beautiful sunny weather.

Status: RUNNING

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik on a gorgeous sunny day. There is almost no wind and the sun is out but if it is a bit cold. We have warm overalls on board our boat so you can stay outside in the sun and hopefully get to see these gentle giants in their natural environment.
