Tour at 09:00

Report from Elding: This morning, the wind was blowing heavily in faxa bay. Therefore, we decided to start our tour in the harbour of Grindavik on the Reykjanes peninsula. Indeed, the wind was blowing strong there, too, but the swell was low as we were sailing within the shelter of the land. The weather in Grindavik was very diversified. Beautiful sunshine turned soon into rain and hailing, but was replaced by sunshine afterwards again. We tried an area where we had seen Orcas some weeks ago when we left from this harbour the last time. On our way, one of our passengers spotted the back of a whale, but as we slowed down, we were not able to see it again. We tried hard to spot whales in the white sea surface, but except for a variety of seabirds including Fulmars, Northern Gannets and Black- backed Gulls we were not able to find anything this morning. How disappointing, since the waters around Grindavik potentially harbour many different whale species. As it looks like today, we might go from there another day the coming week, so we are optimistic to have better luck on the next tour!
