Tour at 2030

Report from Elding; What a crazy night. The conditions were just stunning, beautiful light, calm seas and the sun set behind the whales surfacing was breath-taking. We started the tour at Akurey but most the puffins must of been snuggled up in their burrow as there were not many around but still enough for a nice photograph or two. We then headed offshore and it wasn´t long before we saw splashes in the distance which had to be and was a big pod of White-beaked Dolphins feeding (10-15 animals). We watched with amazement as they were feeding and surfacing very close to the boat. We then left them too it and headed further out and after 5 minutes sailing we saw the blow of a Minke Whale and then another and then another. Three Minkies surfacing almost at once. We found a good spot where the fish finder showed alot of fish for us to turn of the engines and we had at least 4 Minke Whales surfacing many times just meters from us. After a while of admiring these guys we went to see if there was anything else out in the bay but no more. We headed back to the harbour with the gorgeous midnight sun on our back. Wonderful tour.

Tour at 17:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The day just got better and better and we sailed out in such a beautiful weather. After visiting the puffins we sailed for a very short time before spotting the first minke whale! Suddenly we saw that we had two of them, and then three, and then four! WOW we had between 5-8 individuals all around us! This was very nice  and we even turned off the engines so we could enjoy this without the noise from them. After a while we decided that we wanted to try another area and see if we could maybe find something else. On the way we found another minke whale but this one only surfaced once. We headed back with a big smile after a very nice tour.

Tour at 1400

Report from Elding: At the beginning of our tour we visited the puffin island Akurey. The island was very crowded and we saw thousands of puffins. We went further out and the weather was beautiful. The sun was shining and we enjoyed the sailing. It took not long until we spotted the first minke whale. We saw him 3 or 4 times but than he isappeared. So we continued our journey in order to find another whale. We had to search very long and it seemed very quite in the bay. On the way back to the harbour we decided to go to the area where we saw the minke whale at the beginning of our tour. This was a good decision because we found him again. This time he was much closer to the boat and we could watch him for a very long time. Everybody was happy as we went back to the harbour.

Tour at 1300

Report from Hafsúlan: What a great tour, beautiful weather and lots of whales. It took us only about 40 minutes to find the Minke Whales today and we had at least 5-7 around us. It was a little difficult to get too close but a couple of occasions they came 20-30 meters from the boat. Obviously too busy feeding than trying to entertain us. There were hundreds if not thousands of Arctic Terns feeding and making lots of noise around us which is always nice to hear. On the way back we got to see fast surfacing Harbour Porpoises but they were in a rush so only a very quick glimpse of them. Nice whales in beautiful weather, a great day to be at sea.

Tour at 1000

Report from Elding: This tour was really great since it took not very long until we spotted the first minke whale. We could enjoy him very much since he came up to the water surface several times. There was even a second minke whale in the same area and it was great to watch both of them. We continued our journey and we found further minke whales. One of them came absolutely close to the boat - he was only 5 meters away from the boat! It was great to watch him so close and we could see the body and also the fluke under the water. He appeared several times more very close to the boat and all in all we saw 8 to 10 minke whales on this tour.

Tour at 0900

Report from Hafsúlan: It was odd weather this morning as it frequently changed from cloudy too sunny too raining back to sunny. It was beautiful too have the moody skies and sun shining, great time to photograph. It was quite a difficult tour as the whales had moved since yesturday, thus it wasn´t till the end of the tour when we got to see our first sightings. Nearer to the end of the tour we were lucky to encounter two lovely Minke Whales and a small pod of Harbour Porpoises (4-6 animals) which the passengers got a great look at. Slow to start but great to end.
