Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: The sea was calm, the sky clear, and the wind almost non-existent, it was a pleasure to sail out from the harbour this morning. A few harbour porpoises (three individuals) were seen at the beginning of the tour, but they were shy and elusive. Around 45 minutes later we saw a minke whale appear, we soon realised there were others (about 4 in total!) in the same area, and it became difficult to know where to look and who to follow! One of them was particularly relaxed and stayed around the boat, taking its time every time it came to the surface to breathe. There were also some harbour porpoises being seen fleetingly around and so in general it was an excellent morning with great sightings!

Report from Eldey: What a minketastic tour! It was a beautiful day on setting out, the sun was shining and there was very little wind and a very calm sea. Conditions were perfect for whale watching, and it really didn't take us long to find the animals today. The first to be spotted was a minke whale which surfaced beautifully in front of us allowing us an amazing view of its grey-black body. We were able to watch this animal for sometime while it surface all round the boat. Harbour porpoises also popped up to join the fun so we enjoyed watching these beautiful little animals for a time. Then more minkes surfaced at varying distances and we were able to watch these surface fantastically close! Then more porpoises popped up and came wonderfully close, the best encounter i´ve had with this species in a while! A delightful tour to say the least!

Birds seen today: Eider ducks, northern gannets, common guillemots, black-headed gulls, fulmar, sooty shearwater, icelandic gull and kittiwakes.
