Report from Eldey: It seems that this day was not destined for whale watching. Despite the superb sea conditions, perfect for seeing stuff on the horizon, there was just not a single cetacean seen in the whole broad area of the bay. It could be that they were having a laugh and decided to hide from us; if that's the case, we didn't appreciate the joke! We gave out complementary tickets for our guests for them to do the tour again and this time be successful. But still, the lights on this tour were phenomenal as if foreshadowing for another type of light show that is predicted to be good tonight... the elusive aurora borealis. So much from me for this season; Stay warm, love each other and enjoy your holidays. Peace out.

✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE  | 09:00

Report from Eldey: When we sailed out of the harbour this morning we had some frost on the outside benches (read: it was cold), but it was much lighter than yesterday because of the clear skies we had. This of course meant there could be a spectacular sunrise observed a little while after. The sea was pretty calm and the spotting conditions very good. Covering a great surface of water, we sailed and searched for a long time, even stopping at an area where there were plenty of feeding birds, usually a promising sign of cetacean activity. However, since we didn't manage to find any cetaceans on this tour, we did the only thing we can do, give complementary tickets to our guests for them for free an try their luck in an adventure to come.

Bird species seen on today's tour: common guillemot, razorbil, black-backed gull, glaucous gull, eider duck

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. There could always be some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
