Report from Eldey: This bright sunshine and clear skies make the impression that it is a hot summer day. But even with temperatures below zero, it was such a beautiful day to be at sea. We spotted a pod of harbour porpoises only 40 minutes out, which we often only spot with perfect conditions like today. Another few miles out, we spotted a minke whale. But as we were heading towards it's direction, we were distracted by a pod of what turned out to be at least 12 white-beaked dolphins! They were all around us, some coming to bow ride or swim next to the boat, others jumping in the waves while the rest just remained doing their own thing. It was so wonderful to be surrounded by them, really close to such wild animals. As we had only a bit over an hour left of the tour, we decided to move on and towards Reykjavik but again were distracted from our plan as a minke whale came up just in front of us! It was so great seeing the flukeprints, the patches on the water, that it was leaving behind every time it went for a dive. Also another pod of dolphins decided to join the scene and swam all around us. Seems like all live was in the bay today and enjoying the sunshine at least as much as us.

Report from Eldey: An ideal morning to be sailing in Faxafloi! Clear sky, sun shining, very little wind and the sea surface flat as a mirror. We had hardly left the harbour and we already spotted dorsal fins popping up in front of us: 3 white-beaked dolphins! It's very rare to find them this close to the harbour, so the tour was definitely off to an amazing start. The dolphins were going calmly around the boat, very close to us, some even bow-riding. After observing them for a good while, we continued sailing further out and within a half an hour, we found a minke whale! It turned out to be an individual that we have been seeing since 2008. It's always so fascinating to see how same individuals return to the bay year after year. Closeby, we also spotted 2 other minke whales. They we moving quite slowly, coming to the surface only for 1 or 2 breaths at a time but frequently, making it easy for us to predict their movements. On our way back to Reykjavik, we even spotted harbour porpoises. What a great tour!
