Elding: Even earlier than this morning we spotted close ashore a particularly nice minke whale. It travelled several kilometres out into Faxaflói bay while we watched it. We sailed slowly with it and it didn't pay us very much attention, but came all the time up to breath just beside the boat. It swam slowly and between the shallow dives we could see its shadow underneath the surface. We left it though after a long time and found many other minke whales further out in the bay. We watched them as well for some while. One of it was lounge feeding and came up just underneath some feeding birds! Right at the moment when we wanted to leave one minke whales showed up and swam very very fast.  It came with the whole body out of the water while swimming and made a lot of splashes. We were very surprised about this behaviour but couldn't find the reason for it. So far, this has been a nice day with lots of good and rather special sightings!

We seem to be very lucky: the good weather kept on and again we had perfect whale watching conditions! The minke whales moved closer and rather early we spotted our first minke whale. It was very nice and surfaced several times close to the boat, so we could watch it very well. Later we spotted several harbour porpoises. They didn't come close but this is not surprising because they are rather shy animals. We sailed further out into the bay and spotted several other minke whales until we found a small group of white-beaked dolphins, maybe about four or five animal. They showed a very interesting behavior and  stayed very close to each other. One touched the other one several time with its mouth, a social behavior dolphins sometimes show. Toughing each other is very important for dolphins and with their sensitive skin they feel it very well.
