Tour at 17:00

Report from Hafsúlan: Same weather conditions as earlier today. We sailed more south in the beginning of this tour. We had been sailing for a while before we spotted some very elusive white-beaked dolphins. 2-3 dolphins just traveled by us and we only saw the splashes they caused and then they were gone. The rich bird life continued also in the evening and we could enjoy many northern gannets diving after fish. A pod of 3-4 harbour porpoises surfaced twice close to us, very difficult to spot in the swells. We had one more pod of dolphins but we only saw them jumping far off in the distance. This tour proved to be very challenging and when we returned to harbour we offered complimentary tickets to all passengers.

Report from Hafsúlan and Eldey: The sea conditions were getting a little better over the day but we still had short swells due to the strong wind from south. Hafsúlan found the first cetacean of the tour, a minke whale after about 40 minute sailing. We were able to follow the minke whale for 15-20 minutes but by the time Eldey showed up it was starting to be more elusive so we went further out to search for other animals. Eldey soon found a pod of 7-8 white beaked dolphins that were not as difficult to follow. When Hafsúlan arrived to watch the dolphins Eldey left the area. Each boat followed the dolphins for a good time and few times they came really close to our boats. We saw 3-4 other minke whales but they were all elusive and difficult to follow.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan and Eldey: Due to a high number of passengers we decided to take out two boats this morning. The weather was cloudy with light rain and all though yesterday's stormy weather had calmed down we still had some wind from the south. The sea condition was a bit choppy with long rolling swells. Hafsúlan found the first minke whale of the tour and shortly after Eldey had their own whale around the boat. It was sometime difficult to spot the animals in the swells but after some time we manage to see them surface a couple of times. The tour then continued with two pods of white-beaked dolphins. Around Hafsúlan 1-2 dolphins spent some time playing with the boat before disappearing. The bird life in the bay was very rich due to the western winds pushing the seabirds towards land. Sooty shearwater is a species not often seen close to land. Both boats had 3-4 minkes on the tour and one pod of dolphins each. A challenging morning out in Faxaflói.
