Tour at 17:00

We set off in the pouring rain here from Reykjavík harbour, and went first to see the puffins in Akurey. After sailing for just 10 minutes from the island we spotted the first Minke whale!! This whale was very close to shore, and soon after this encounter we spotted some Harbour Porpoises. Throughout the tour we stopped and watched quite a few Minke whales and in total we probably saw about 10-12 Minke whales! The captain spotted a blow much further out and we headed towards this sighting and soon discovered that there were two Humpback whales quite close to each other and we got a really nice look at one of them. We don't recognize this individual so it is really great that we have some new whales around now. A really great tour with lots of smiling passengers :)

This was one of our best tours! Still a bit rainy but quite far out at Faxaflói-bay we spotted many minke whales. We liked that a lot, because we hadn't seen so many the last weeks. The first one was a particularly good and calm one! It was very curios and approached us and watched us. It swam towards us three times and swam around and under the boat! After that it just swam away-we weren't anylong enough iteressting for it :-) But while we had the minke whales around us, we spotted a huge blow and it belonged to a huge humpback whale! It showed several times its fluke and we could imagine how large this animal seemed to be. It was one of the largest we had had around.  On this tour we spotted as well very calm harbour porpoises and it seemed that all our sightings on this tour were rather special!

Tour at 9:00

The weather was a bit rainiytoday, but we didn't mind, because we had almost no wind and therefor very good whale watching conditions. The minke whales had been a bit rare the last weeks but to our surprise we spotted one quite early. It came only a few times up to the surface and disappeared after that. We still gave it a few minutes and hoped that it will show up again, because we saw on our fishfinder that it actually swam under the boat. Later we spotted some nice white-beaked dolphins. They made it easy for us to enjoy them. They stayed a long time with us.
