CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 0900
Report from Eldey: We set sail with the first snow of the season falling in Reykjavik this morning, colouring the mountains surrounding the bay beautifully white. We barely left the harbour as we spotted 2 Minke whales around us. We managed to see them from very close by multiple times until we decided to move on and explore the bay further. After a bit of a search, we found a humpback whale which rapidly turned into 2, and then 3 individuals swimming side by side! They then started playing around very close to the boat and we could see them role around below the surface, allowing us to see the white bottom of their flukes shine through the surface. To top it all off, one of them even did a peduncle throw! Some fluke dives later, it was finally time to start heading home and warm ourselves on a hot chocolate.

Report from Eldey:
We had sunny weather with a little choppy sea. A nicely cold breeze that sometimes brought tears in our eyes, but that's part of the icelandic experience. ;)
After a little while of sailing out, we spotted a blow, not far from our boat. As we came closer we noticed, that it were 3 humpback whales ! They were traveling together and all of a sudden one of them started to slap it's pectoral fin onto the water surface ! He wouldn't stop and then the other one did a peduncle throw and was hitting his tail on the water surface as well. The first one, then rolled on it's back and pointed his 2 pectoral fins in the air ! We could see parts of his belly and then he slapped them again on the water. Then they did a beautiful fluke dive and disappeared for about 4 minutes. Then they popped up behind us and displayed the same behavior again and at the end a 3rd humpback appeared alongside them! Unfortunately our time came to an end and we had to head back. But as the saying goes "all good things must come to an end". :)
What a great tour !! <3
