Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey and Hafsulan: Some clouds had made their way into Faxa bay this afternoon, but it stayed dry and the wind only picked up towards the end of the tour so that sailing was pleasant and only a bit of movement could be felt on the boat. We went out on two boats and decided to go different directions to increase our chance of finding wildlife. On Eldey we encountered pretty soon after heading out a pod of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins who were likely traveling and we could stay with them for a while, a really nice start to this tour. We then headed further out and saw a blow in the distance, it was caused by a minke whale whom we would spot again multiple times next to a smaller minke which we only saw surfacing one time. Overall everybody on this boat got good looks of the cetaceans including about 8 harbour porpoises divided in 3 different pods.On Hafsulan however we were not so lucky today and only came across one very elusive minke and a few porpoises, therefore we offered all of our passengers on this boat complimentary tickets to try again and look for more wildlife in the bay. Sometimes nature just can be like that, unpredictable and very different in various areas.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Our morning turned out to be surprisingly pleasant regarding the weather ! The swell were short but low, so the ride was overall stable, and when not facing the wind temperatures were close to normal spring temperatures. And as the tour unfolded we even got more and more sunshine ! Obviously we had good luck and it was only natural that we found a pod of 4-6 harbour porpoises quickly. They didn't stay for long but they had the courtesy to say hi and to show themselves pretty well. Our next cetaceans were about 10-12 white-beaked dolphins that treated us with a relaxed surfacing, and several passing under the boats, allowing easy cool pictures. We heard news about a minke whale from other boats, but unfortunately we never got to see it ourselves. You can't have it all, but enjoyable weather and easy dolphins made for a nice trip !

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. There will be movement on the boat this morning out on Faxabay but if you are sensitive to motion sickness we offer preventative tablets in the ticket office, free of charge! On board there are heated indoor areas but we also have overalls to keep you warm out on deck. Hope you are able to join us on the search of these magnificent animals in their natural environment.
