Report from Hafsúlan: What. A. Tour. As has become habit in the last month, we sailed towards the island Viðey to look for the humpback whale we have been seeing there very frequently. But since there was no sign of it, we just changed our course to head out into the windy bay. However, after just about 15 minutes, we had to do a 180° turn and head straight on back to Viðey island because the humpback whale was there after all! As our microphone decided to go on strike just then, probably due to the rain, I went around deck and told everyone what was happening and it definitely caused some amusement to hear me shouting. Thankfully, just as we got to the humpback, our engineer had proven his technical skills and fixed the microphone so I could go back to talking at a normal noise level. Although not really, as I got so excited about how close the humpback surfaced to us! Less than 20 meters in front of our boat!!! Passengers were even a bit worried if it was okay, as it wasn't moving much. But it turned out that it was simply resting or, as we decided to call it on this tour, "whale-sleeping", and thus we could enjoy a very relaxed humpback whale within only meters of our boat for an hours time. How great to have a humpback so trusting and calm so close to the harbour.
