Amazing weather continued this afternoon, and it was not as cold anymore with the sun shining directly on us. We sailed out to Faxafloi bay, the sea surface was flat, with no waves and whitecaps, making it perfect conditions for spotting any wildlife. After about one hour of sailing, a large silhouette popped up at the surface fairly close to us: a minke whale! It was very elusive at first and hard to keep up with, not following any usual surfacing patterns. Eventually, it got a little bit easier and we got to see the whale from closer.  As we were heading back to Reykjavik, we saw a small pod of 4-5 white-beaked dolphins. They were circling around the boat and coming close to us. A bit further away, there was even one individual jumping continuously, creating big splashes. What a nice tour in simply perfect weather!

Report from Eldey: What a beautiful morning! There was very little wind and the sky was clear as we sailed out into the Faxafloi bay. The scenery was incredible, with full moon still up, orange and pink skyes glooming behind the mountains as the sun was rising.  Snow capped mountains and crispy cold air reminded us of the winter being just around the corner. We of course provided our passengers with warm overalls to get the best enjoyable experience. After 45 minutes of sailing, we spotted a minke whale pop up. However, it went for a deeper dive right away, and we didn't see it again. We continued sailing, trying to search through a large area. We found a big flock of sea birds feeding and got very hopeful that there would be whales or dolphins joining the feeding frenzy. Unfortunately, we could not spot any cetaceans in that area either. Since we are dealing with unpredictible wild animals and nature,  sometimes it happens that they are just not in the same areas that we are sailing. We want to give our passengers a second chance and therefore everyone got a complimentary ticket to come again on a whale watching tour for free within the next two years.
