Tour at 1700

Report from Hafsúlan: After the great first tours today we sailed again into the bay. But sometimes it is strange how the marine life is changing in a few hours. On this tour we were searching for a very long time but unfortunately we could not find any bigger Whales. On the way out we stopped at the Puffin colony again, they were still nice to see. Further out in the bay we found a lot of Harbor Porpoises that were surfacing many times in a lot of different areas. Once they came unusual close to our boat and we could see their whole bodies under the surface. In the end of the tour we gave everyone on board acomplimentary ticket as we would like that everyone has the chance to try to find some bigger whales again!

Tour at 1300

Report from Hafsúlan: Not very far out in the bay we spotted a flock of birds and went there to have a closer look at. There were some Harbor Porpoises in between but we got at the same time the message about other species in an area close by, so we just turned to go there. And this was the right decision as we found a Minke Whale with a lot of Harbor Porpoises around. We saw the Minke Whale several times until we headed further out into the bay. There we found the third species of the tour that were White Beaked Dolphins!!! One of the came really close ( not more than 2 meters away) and surfaced many times!! On the way back there was another Minke Whale but it surfaced only 2/3 times when we got closer. As we were running out of time anyway after that brilliant tour we headed back towards Reykjavík older harbor. On the way back the whole bay seemed to be full with Harbor Porpoises!!!! Great tour with many porpoises!!!

Tour at 0900

Report from Hafsúlan: What a great morning, we just started in Reykjavík older Harbor and were on our way to the Puffin Island Akurey when we spotted White Beaked Dolphins!!! Great surprise to have them so close to land! Heading further out into the bay we had Harbor Porpoises surfacing again and again! Then we found a Minke Whale (maybe even two) that we stayed with for a while until we spotted another group of fast travelling White Beaked Dolphins. Once we got there we even found a second Minke Whale that we got a good look at. On the way back there were many Harbor Porpoises and close to Reykjavík still some of the White Beaked Dolphins were we stopped shortly. Absolutely great and amazing tour with many marine mammals in the bay!!! WOW!!!

Report from Elding: We sailed on the company‘s original vessel out to the beautiful, mirror calm and perfect Faxaflói Bay and came across our first cetaceans (collective name for whales, dolphins and porpoises) within minutes. Just off land we saw a small pod of White-beaked Dolphins (5-8 individuals)and spent sometime in their enjoyable company before heading to Akurey to see the numerous Puffins flying and swimming  around the Island further into the bay. It took us about 40 minutes until we spotted the first Minke Whale and had it surfacing many times before he took a deep dive and disappeared. We continued our search for some while more and soon found another Minke, which was slightly less interested in being observed and quickly went for a dive. Throughout the tour we also saw Harbour Porpoises. The tour then had just as good an end as it had a beginning because the White-beaked Dolphins were waiting for us at around the same place as at the beginning of the tour.

Birds seen on todays tour include: Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Seagulls, Eider Ducks, Arctic Terns and Geese.
