Tour at 13:00
Report from Hafsúlan: the conditions had not changed so much since the morning tour, but it rained a lot on us and hailed every now and then. we decided to sail first to the area where we had seen the minke whale on the morning tour. After searching there for 15 minutes with no success we kept on going but then suddenly we spotted a minke whale not so far from us! we followed it for a little while, it was traveling very fast around and that didn't make it easier for us. We then kept on and sailed further out until we spotted another whale in a long distance. It was very difficult to follow it, and we usually were only able to see the blow that it made. When we finally got a betters look at it we saw it was a humpback whale! The humpback spent always a long time under water between surfacing but it was really great to get two species in this tour!

Tour at 09:00
Report from Hafsúlan: the sea conditions were very good, even if it usually takes the swell a bit of time to die out after storms such as the one yesterday. The poor visibility was more of an issue but as we got further into the tour, it improved. There was a lot of bird life; lots of northern fulmars, great numbers of black-legged kittiwakes, and quite a few of delightful northern gannets. Often times the kittiwakes and the fulmars seemed to be feeding as they would dive down and grab something, but we could not see anything on the fishfinder; presumably it was something miniature like krill. We were then heading towards Reykjavik when we noticed a huge flock of feeding seabirds in a distance; always a reason to stop by and check if larger feeders are present. And indeed there was one, the spring's second minke whale! (the first one was seen on Tuesday). It was popping up quickly, swimming fast, and coming up far between so sadly we did not get as good or much view of this whale as we would have like to but the passengers seemed to be very happy still; after all the good sea and the birds were brilliant; so this tour was a successful one.
