Report from Þruma RIB: Today's tour was under a sunny afternoon and a very calm sea. There was not a lot of wind but a little bit of fog was hiding the landscape. We started our tour looking for atlantic puffins on Engey, an island near the harbour. Many of those cute birds were taking the sun on the grass of the island. After 15 minutes sailing on the bay, we approached a flock of birds and found our first sighting with a minke whale. We could see it surfacing a few times before it disappeared. We continued our tour when our captain saw the blow of a humpback whale ! We carefully approached to see the whale fluke dive a few times very calmly, probably feeding. Suddenly the whale showed us a very powerful peduncle slap and and tail slapping for several minutes ! After this impressive show, the humpback whale continued its previous behaviour. A minute after we saw 2-3 white-beaked dolphins in the same area. Were they the cause of this whale behavior ? We finished our tour seeing 2 other minke whales feeding a bit further in the bay.
