Tour at 13.00

Report from Elding: As the wind got a bit stronger in the afternoon, we sailed again in the shelter of the land and decided to try our luck in Hvalfjörður (Whale Fjord), where Minke Whales and White-beaked Dolphins had been seen before. Unfortunately, we did not see any whales on this tour, but the great landscape of the fjord as well as several seabirds, such as Puffins, Gannets and Brent Geese made this trip being fun on the first day in Icelandic summer. We are looking forward to see every passenger of this trip again on one of our future tours using our complimentary tickets.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Elding: When we sailed out from Reykjavik harbour this morning, the wind was blowing strong and we decided to sail in the shelter of Reykjanes Peninsula for a while, before heading out into the bay.

After about 40 minutes of sailing, we spotted a pod of 2 to 3 White-beaked Dolphins that surface less then 50 meters from the boat. Unfortunately, they vanished as fast as they had come and after patiently waiting we decided to head a bit further.  It took us just a few more minutes until we spotted a Minke Whale surfacing about 150 meters  from the ship. However, the Minke appeared to be quite elusive, and even though we saw it surfacing a couple of times, it was difficult for us to show it to everyone.

When slowly heading back to Reykjavik, we saw some Harbour Porpoises close to the boat, but as with the dolphins and the Minke disappeared quickly. But this is how wildlife is and we have to accept what mother nature gives us.

Birds seen on today's tours: Oystercatcher, Brent Geese, Puffins, Northern Gannets, Fulmars, Razorbills, Common Guillemots, Black-backed Gull
