Report from Eldey and Hafsúlan: Todays conditions were good for whale watching with cloudy skies and small swells. Visibility was excellent but a strong wind was blowing from the east. We started off by heading to the west out onto Faxa Bay in search of cetaceans. After sailing for about an hour Eldey spotted a glimpse of something interesting of our starboard bow. We turned towards it and sure enough it was a minke whale. This individual was moving quite quickly and we had our hands full keeping track of it. Hafsúlan soon arrived and it was easier to follow its movements from two boats than one. We did manage to get a few good looks at it though with the passengers being very quick on their feet, moving to opposite sides of the boats to follow the whale. It is possible that there was a second individual in the area as well, but we couldn't be sure as the minke spent a lot of time diving, making it difficult to ascertain if there were two individuals. The boats then split up, Eldey headed up to Hvalfjörður and Kjalarnes and Hafsúlan towards Hafnarfjörður to search for other animals. Hafsúlan got to see 3 harbour porpoises in that area, we only saw them for a short time before they disappeared in the swells.
