Report from Elding II: A day that felt like winter is on the way. It was rather chilly, with grey clouds that rained from time to time. But despite the not ideal weather, the whales made up for that. Being a very small group of passengers, it was a very personal tour and we had a lot of room to spread out as we watched 3 humpback whales only 40 minutes out of the harbour. They were feeding on the fish that was about 30m deep, so their dives took longer but it also meant they were raising their flukes - or tail - whenever they needed to push their body down deep. Here and there minke whales popped up, at least 3 different ones. One of them became a little curious and came right to our boat, giving us a great sighting. As we continued on, we encountered numerous pods of harbour porpoises. All in all 6 pods of each 2-6 individuals. Seeing these cute little guys "porpoising" out of the water always puts a smile on everyones' face. And the great thing is, which such sightings, everyone forgets about the rain.
