Report from Eldey: The wind had picked up a little bit this afternoon when we headed out. We went directly to the same area where the whales had been in the morning. We searched for a while without any luck. After a while we saw huge splashes not so far away from us, and there it was, a breaching humpback whale. It breached one more time for us. We stayed with the whale for a while but it was on the move and quite difficult to see sometimes. However it came really close to the boat once allowing us to see it close up. After a while we decided to head to another area in hope to find more animals. The other area didn't bring us any luck and our time was up so it was time to head back to Reykjavik after a windy afternoon on Faxaflói bay.

Report from Eldey: Whereas there was lovely sunshine and almost no clouds as we left the harbour this morning, the wind from the North was also quite strong and very chilly. Lots of passengers made use of our complimentary overalls to keep nice and warm. It only took us a little more than half an hour to spot a big blow - the first sign of a larger whale in the bay today. The humpback whale we kept seeing exhale kept us quite busy at the start. It kept diving and resurfacing in different places, constantly changing its direction. Our captain saw on the fish finder that there was loads of whale-food in the water surrounding us - so this behavior was not really surprising. We were also not just watching one whale, there were at least 3 humpback whales and 2 minke whales to be seen within a few hundred metres of the boat. And one of the humpback whales was a veery friendly individual. It surfaced right next to our boat on 3 (!) different occasions and sometimes even kept moving closer before diving down again. We got beautiful looks at this animal - not only its back and fluke above the water, but the whole body including the white flippers showing under water in the sunshine. It was hard to leave the many birds and whales behind but eventually we had to head back to Reykjavík after this amazing wildlife experience.

Bird species seen on todays tours: Northern fulmars, northern gannets, kittiwakes, lesser & greater black-backed gulls, eider ducks great skua and atlantic puffins.

We are sailing out today from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik. It is a bit windy and cold but the sun is shining and it is a beautiful day. There will be movement on the boat because of swells.
