Tour at 13:00: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: 8-10 m/s below freezing winds from the East brought a nice calm sailing and not too chilly conditions on the way out to sea but a very freezing cold sail back. We dressed warmly and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the bay. After about an hours sailing we found a HUMPBACK WHALE!, At first the humpback was taking long dives and travelling quite a difference inbetween surfaces but eventually we were able to get close enough to get some nice pictures. We discovered that it was a different humpback whale from yesterday and one that we were able to recognise, a humpback whale called ´Jafar´that was first catalogued in July 2016. It is always amazing to see a resighted individual and as this was the second humpback whale seen in two days we hope that it´s a sign for more to come. A great day.

Bird species seen on today's tour include: glaucous gulls, iceland gulls, kittiwakes, shags, cormorants, eider ducks and greater black-backed gulls.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today at 13:00. Sea conditions are quite favorable but there will be some movement on the boat, and we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office. Today is also very cold, so do not be shy to make use of our warm overalls.
