There were so many puffins in the Island today, flying around the island in a big circle. We sailed out to Faxaflói bay were we spotted around 4 minke whales. Some of them were very good, coming very close to the boat and some came up rather fast in more distance. One passenger told us after the tour that she saw a brown whale. This was rather surprising since we usually don´t see brown whales but there is a possibility that she might have seen the baskin shark because few days ago we found a relaxed baskin shark swimming slowly on the surface. Lets hope that passengers on 17:00 o´clock tour will have a better chance to see it.

Puffin island Lundey was our first stop and we saw allot of Puffins there. Then we sailed out to Faxaflói bay. After sailing for some time we spotted hundreds of diving Gannets and soon two Minke whales surfaced in front of our bout. Then a small group of Harbour porpoises showed up next no us, very nice group. Then at one point we were surrounded by Minke whales. They surfaced all around us, some very close, others further away. So we were quite lucky on this tour.

We started by going to the puffin Island, still in very windy weather. Exceptionally many puffins were in the Island this morning, bringing sand eels to their pufflings. Then we sailed for about one hour until we spotted the first minke whale. It only came up 3 times far away so we tried to sail further out were we found a huge flock of feeding gannets. It was amazing to see hundreds of gannets diving into the ocean, making splashes on the surface. We found 4 minke whales in this area. Some came close to the boat and some came up far away.

It was quite windy on today’s tour but you only felt it on the way back to the harbour. We started the tour by visiting Akurey and saw many Puffins and some Skuas. We then headed out into Faxaflói, it wasn´t long until we came across our first Minke Whale however the whale was really elusive and we only saw it surface once and its blow twice. We weren´t getting much out of this Minke so we headed further offshore. On the way we saw some Harbour Porpoises which surfaced many times and close to the boat too. Later on we found some White-beaked Dolphins but these weren´t that interactive either so we only spotted them a couple of times. We then found another Minke Whale which was a great encounter surfacing many times and less than 30 meters from the boat on quite a few occasions. It was also seen lunge feeding and surfing the waves too. There were hundreds of diving Gannets in this area too which were really amazing to watch. Fantastic Tour.
