Tour at 17:00
The weather had changed a little bit. The wind had picked up when we headed back out to find the whales. But the whales were quite difficult to find this afternoon. After sailing for 60 minutes we spotted finally a group of White-beaked dolphins. They were quite illusive but some of them came quite close a few times. Then we went further out to try to find the big whales. After searching for some time we spotted two Minke Whales in the same area and one group of Harbour Porpoises. But the Minke Whales only surfaced a few times before disappearing again. On the way back we stopped by the Puffin island Akurey and saw many thousands of Puffins. Nice tour ;)
Tour at 1300
It was quite cloudy for this tour but the sea was not so rough and the wind was warm so all in all not bad weather conditions. We started by visiting Akurey and saw many Puffins. Then we headed offshore. It took us a while before we saw anything and what we did see was a blow from a Minke Whale in the distance. There must of been a few in the area because there were a couple of blows seen but we seemed to wait a long time between them. Then suddenly a Minke surfaced less than 100 meters from our boat. It surfaced about 4 times before going for a deep dive. A little while later another surfaced about 60 meters from us. On our way home we came across a small pod of Harbour Porpoises but they didn´t stay long. Good tour.
Tour at 09:00
In cloudy but nice calm weather we sailed out to Faxaflói bay after visiting the Puffin island Akurey. It took us a long time to find the whales today. First we spotted a small group of Harbour Porpoises and we spent some time with them until they disappeared. After searching for some time we spotted few Minke Whales. Some of them far away and some closer. Two of them surfaced quite close to the boat. Nice tour.
