Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
Report from Eldey: We had wonderful conditions this morning with a mirror-like sea, almost no wind, and a great sun warming us during the tour. We went quite far out without seeing any whale and only a few birds passive in the water, so it seemed that there was not a lot of food today. We turned to the north trying to find a better area but nothing was appearing at the surface. We started heading back and after a while we saw a minke whale from far away. We approached and could see this minke whale lunge-feeding several times, accelerating and turning on the side while opening its mouth. We saw it surfacing quietly and doing this very active behaviour from very close. An amazing sighing. We stayed for a while and headed back to the harbour under a beautiful sun.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: What a wonderful day for a whale-watching trip: we had warm (for Icelandic standards) sun, completely flat seas and a great visibility over the bay. This visibility allowed us to detect any activity in the water from far distances, and we soon spotted a pod of white-beaked dolphins. When we reached the dolphins, it turned out we had encountered a superpod of over a 100 individuals. All around our boat the dolphins were feeding, mothers were swimming together with their calves, in the distance some individuals were leaping - it was a spectacular sighting where we almost didn´t know where to look. We enjoyed this wonder of nature to the peaceful sound of the sea for about half an hour, and then we decided to look for the minke whale of this morning. We did find a minke whale, although it was in a different area than in the morning. This individual was feeding, surfacing 3 times before taking dives of a few minutes. As we wanted to say goodbye to this minke, he or she came up much closer to our boat than before and we could have a good look at the beautiful, slender whale. We still had some time left so we continued further out into the bay, and after having admired the landscape and taking in the sun we had a third encounter, with a humpback whale. The whale surfaced a few times before showing us its fluke, and although the whale was taking quite long dives we were able to see it a few more times before we headed back to Reykjavík with these amazing encounters in our minds.
